What's a dry van?

Pretty much a suspended box on tires.  Dry vans are not temperature controlled (reefers).  Dry vans are made to haul loose / boxed / palletized items.

The most common trailer type in shipping dry product in America.  These are especially great because of their versatile enclosures.  Having e-tracks in the trailer walls allow shippers/carriers to secure product in many types of ways. For ex) Load lock securing + Load strap securing.

Dry van trailer dims and caps

  • 48 & 53 FOOT TRAILERS

Long haul shipping usually requires one or the other.  53 is much more common than a 48 foot trailer – however, certain shipping sites would require a 48 due to space in their loading area.

Max weight cap is 45,000 lbs.  Unless the weight of the truck and trailer is heavier, then it must stay under 80,000 lbs.

  • 28 FOOT TRAILERS

Smaller and used when LTL pricing isn’t great / Expedited shipping. Max cap on weight allowed to ship is 23,000 lbs or less.

  • BOX TRUCKS

Typically used in the city to make local deliveries.  20-30 foot trucks that can haul about 10-15,000 lbs typically.

Most Common

Being the most common type of trailer used in shipping.  You will find the best prices shipping your long haul freight using a 53 foot dry van air ride.

Efficiency

Having the enclosed nature of box truck.  Using an e-trac system designed on the walls of the trailers allows efficient and safe shipment of your products.

Depending on your product, drivers & shippers can use straps and bars to secure product in the enclosed box.

Flooring

Unlike Reefers and some flat beds – Some trucks are wood floored.  This means products also have a possibility to be locked into place using good ol’ fashion nails and hammer.

Some furniture may require this type of safety.
