7 Pros and Cons of Dispatch Services Vs Self-Dispatching

Pros of Dispatch Service

1. Expertise and Experience:

Experienced dispatch services know to strike when the iron is hot.  AKA, we think fast.

2. Time Savings:

You save time when your only focus is what you do best.  Operating your truck or carrier.  Taking care of your and your drivers needs.

3. Efficient Load Matching:

As you’re in your spaceship traveling, we’re staring at load boards with extra coffee.  Making sure you don’t stand around stranded.

4. Access to Technology:

We utilize all type of technology.  We utilize instantly.io (100$ a month).  Zoom info (40,000$ a year or 3,400 a month).  DAT ($180 a month).  Truckstop ($120 a month).  Linkedin ($100 for a professional account.)  Shipzor (340$ a month).

$50,000 in technology a year.

5. Regulatory Compliance:

If you’re new to the industry and get mails you’re confused about, which will happen.  We got you covered.  It’s usually a “nothing burger” but we’ll dedicate our time to any questions.

Cons of Dispatch Service

1. Costs:

Although we only charge 5%.  Many dispatch services go up to 10%.  We’re lucky to have established relationships and customers that make our life easy.

2. Loss of Control:

Although we don’t mind you having more than 1 dispatch service because we will never say no to you having the chance to make money elsewhere.  Many dispatch services have a contract which doesn’t allow you to take freight from any other provider!  You don’t have to sign up with us but make sure you know about this before you sign up with anyone.

3. Communication Challenges:

It’s simple.  Sometimes dispatch services don’t execute what they promise.

Pros of Self Dispatching

1. Full Control:

You pick up the phone dial and do all the contract and billing work yourself.

2. Cost Savings:

No paying even 1% to anybody else.

3. Personalized Approach

You may know better ways of getting freight.  From your local shipper or family member.

Cons of Self Dispatching

1. Time Consuming:

It takes time understanding what market you’re currently in and how the freight is coming in.  You can’t just open your DAT load board and book the first load you call on… You’d close your company faster than Netflix took over blockbuster.

2. Limited Resources:

You may have DAT and Truckstop – but it wouldn’t be smart to invest in all the technologies great dispatch services utilize if your fleet is smaller than 20 trucks.

3. Language Barrier

Not even considering actual language barrier where it comes to actually being able to speak english.  There is a language barrier in creating relationships as well.  Freight brokers are a different breed.

4. Slow dialing

You can even use a click to dial application for DAT that may allow you call faster.  Great dispatchers BEAT the click to dial button.  Yes.  Our dispatchers dial 7 buttons, accurately – faster than you can click 1.

5. Slow set-up packets

Ever lost a load because it took you so long to fill out a packet?  Happens to everyone in the industry.
